To-Do : Wish List There are a number of features we are working on:
  • A geocoding engine for Europe. You'll soon be able to type in any location in continental europe and the british isles, and get back all relevant geographical information about that location.
  • More location intelligence - identifying any location based on the natural network of rivers, lakes, seas, mountains, etc - anything identifiable as a location in the same way we do now with the human-made road network. This way we will be able to move closer to the area of semantic location based search: "For example: show me X within Ykm of the ottawa and rideau rivers."
  • Landmarks Geocoding: We will soon be able to geocode all major landmarks in Canada (for eg. if someone types a query like "the CN tower" we'll pinpoint its location. we'll try our best to identify as many landmarks as possible but this will be a long and difficult process).
  • Fuzzy matching of street names and alternate spelling. [done]
  • Reverse Geocoding : Identifying the closest postal code, street address, intersection and a major landmark within a given radius of a latitude-longitude pair. [done]
  • Relief mapping of elevations and depressions based on sea level.
  • Driving/Walking/Swimming/etc.. directions based on two geo-points.
  • A standalone Geocoder. [done]
  • Extending our geocoding coverage of north america [done]
  • An interactive voronoi-map of all canadian postal code regions.
  • Better recognition of addresses in both english and french.[done]
  • Miscellaneous Geospatial informations
  • Some of the items we have checked off this list recently include reverse geocoding, Street Intersection Geocoding and a Suggestion System for mistyped streets.
We are always looking for even more ways to improve this service. If you have any suggestions or bugs to report, write to geodata@geocoder.ca. We'll work hard to incorporate your feedback.

Also if you use our service, tell us what you use it for, and how.
