IBM Canada Software Laboratory - At the present time, most websites with backend databases are used to match user's search criteria with the content of the database. Not only do users want a search to be fast and interactive, they are also demanding dynamic content retrieval from many different data sources at run time. Together with DB2 9 and its native XML support, the popular PHP Web development scripting language, and the AJAX framework, we at IBM Canada Software Laboratory have developed a general matching solution. This solution can be applied to any business with a matching requirement. To put our solution into action, we applied it to a daycare search scenario. From the example, we will illustrate the ease of integrating DB2 with native XML support with PHP applications and other emerging technologies like AJAX, RSS feeds, and lightweight Web services such as geocoder.ca.

Gigazad Networks provides a new way to advertise. We show geographically-targeted advertising to free Wi-Fi hotspot users across Canada. Advertisers can specify which geographical areas they want to advertise in; each area is defined by latitude and longitude ranges. We use geocoder.ca data to determine which of our hotspot locations are in those areas.
